titch.org • The Road to Adelaide
After my stay in Melbourne (which was extended due to stormy weather), I started on a 3 day road trip to Adelaide. I made my way down through Geelong to the start of the Great Ocean Road at Torquay. From there I trundled slowly along the coast, stopping frequently to take in the views, sea air and bracing winds. I reached the Twelve Apostles shortly before dusk, and then made my way to Port Campbell where I stayed in a youth hostel full almost entirely of Irish people. I went out for rather too many pints and drunk gallons of water before going to bed.

The next day I had an egg and bacon roll, a cup of tea and then inched even more slowly on towards Adelaide. I was dehydrated and had a headache for some reason. Heard a very interesting programme on ABC National with an aboriginal singer called Ruby Hunter (whose CDs I should have bought down there since I can`t get hold of them here). Doh! I passed through Mount Gambier, and was duly amazed by the blueness of the blue crater lake. I reached Robe, where I stayed at the Robe Long Beach Holiday Park in a little chalet for a very good price.

I pushed on the next day, up along the Coorong, crossed the Murray River on the free ferry at Wellington, and drove through the beautiful countrysile of the Fleurieu Peninsula to get only a couple of streets from my destination: Collier Mansions.

Back to Melbourne. On to Adelaide.
