I spent my last week staying with Paul, Wendy, and George, at their home in the southern suburbs of Adelaide. After a barbie including my first taste of kangaroo, I was interrogated on my plans for the week. Once they had finished telling me all my ideas (apart from visiting Kangaroo Island) were rubbish, I called their bluff, demanding some better ideas.
After a week watching telly and getting takeaway I flew home.
Oh, alright, I found some stuff to do. We trekked down to Victor Harbour and Granite Island in Paul`s History Van, saw some of the best place names in the world, including Kangarilla and Yankalilla. Wendy very generously drove me around McLaren Vale vineyards. I had a bit of a headache coming on by midday but that was sorted out by a big sandwich and a cup of coffee, before trying a few more wines. Also had an excellent (though tiring) whistle-stop tour of Kangaroo Island. Paul and I saw some varied aboriginal art at the Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute, as well as a demonstration of the didgeridoo. I`d rather listen to that than bagpipes any day. It was actually rather soothing. We also went to Port Adelaide and the Maritime Museum.
After my week in Adelaide, I flew back to Sydney where I stayed one more night at Sam`s place. We went down to Bronte Beach where I had one last "swim" (it was more like a tumble due to the surf), before Sam dropped me off at the airport for a pretty gruelling series of flights home.
Back to the road to Adelaide. That`s it. Return to Australia index..
